Titanium & Niobium Care
Metal Color
The colors produced on titanium and niobium, plus other refractory metals are created by light waves interacting with a clear oxide on the surface of the metal. The oxide thickness created by anodization determines what color is produced.
Protect Metal Color
It is important to protect the surfaces of all jewelry by limiting metal-to-metal contact and proper storage. With titanium and niobium, the oxide surface needs to be protected so it is recommended to store your jewelry individually wrapped in a soft cloth or zip-lock bag in your jewelry box.
Cleaning
Over time colors may appear muted as oils in our skin accumulate on the surface of the metal. In this case, wash with mild soap and warm water or use a glass cleaner, followed by rinsing with water, and immediately dry with a soft absorbent cloth. Using a can of compressed air, found in office supplies and hardware stores, is a very effective way to blow your pieces dry. This will restore its brilliant color.
Note: Never use an abrasive cleaning pad as it will damage the oxide surface.
